Michael Wollny
What a jazz musician does is not easy to describe in few words. It seems like he’s doing two things at once: He’s playing, and he’s composing the thing he just played. When you experience Michael Wollny at the piano, you never have the impression that two things are happening here side by side. Wollny always adds together, something specific, a whole, before we understand that there are several sources from which he draws.

Without planning and invention playing would be risky – perception would be oppressive without the possibility to broaden the perspective – rest would be monotonous without the storm after it.

Michael Wollny’s music is an adventure to which he invites his listeners.
It starts with the first note.

Michael Wollny (1978), lives in Frankfurt, works with Heinz Sauer, his trio [em], and with the celesta player Tamar Halperin. In the summer of 2011 he will work with the singer Theo Bleckmann.

He received the Jazzecho 2010 from the Deutsche Schallplattenkritik – one of the most prestigious awards in Germany.
