Rhani Krija was born in Essaouira, Morocco, in the heart of the Gnawa culture, in 1971. Known for his expertise in authentic Andalusian, Arabic, African, and Latin rhythms, Rhani is a highly sought-after, international percussionist who has worked with Sting, Dominic Miller, Herbie Hancock, Al Di Meola, Placido Domingo, Peter Gabriel, Vince Mendoza, Annie Lennox, Prince, and others.

With Paul van Kemenade, Markus Stockhausen and Stevko Busch he formed 'FUGARA'. In 2020 he will tour again with Paul and Stevko, this time with Moroccan singer, guimbre and oud player Majid Bekkas.

Christian is one of the few drummers who have found their own musical language. His original drumming, rich in timbre, allows him to perform the rare balancing act that distinguishes him in very different musical styles. His projects range from modern jazz to world music, from experimental electronics and pop music to classical music.

He has created his own instrumentation, effectively inventing many instruments and extended techniques. He utilizes drumset, bowed gongs, cymbals, singing bowls, metal objects, bells, and various sticks and bows to create an intense, organic music that defies category or genre.
