Group (8 sessions ) & Individual lessons (6 sessions) One hour sessions each.
Overview
- Explanation of swara (musical note) and voice exercises including warm-ups Demonstration and practice of vocal exercises to improve vocal techniques and flexibility
- Introduction to the concept of laya (rhythm) and taal (rhythm cycle) Demonstration and practice of basic rhythm exercises to strengthen rhythmic aspects
- Understanding the concept of raaga sangeet,
Introduction to vocal embellishments used in singing ,
Demonstration and practice of these in the context of a chosen raaga - Introduction to bandish (composition) in a specific raga
Explanation of the structure and components of a bandish
Demonstration and practice of two traditional bandishes in the chosen raagas Emphasis on understanding the lyrics and emotive aspects of the bandish - Overview of the badhat (improvisation) process in Hindustani music
Explanation of different segments of improvisations
Demonstration and practice of some improvisation techniques within a raaga for the compositions learnt earlier - Understanding the structure and format of a performance in North Indian classical music.
- Overview of prominent gharanas(musical lineages) and their distinct features Guided listening sessions of short excerpts from maestros .
- Basics of the notation system in Hindustani music (Sargam notation)
Additionally, The participants will receive an informative e-guidebook containing study materials, a curated list for further listening, and a compilation of online resources. There will be Q&A sessions to address doubts and concerns.
Note: The curriculum can be adjusted based on the progress and requirements of the students
Coach: Anagha Bhat
Anagha Bhat is a North-Indian classical vocalist based in Bengaluru, India. She is a a disciple of Maestro Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar . She has been a scholar at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy. Anagha has been featured in several music festivals, both in India and abroad, and is the recipient of awards, including the Pandit Mansur National Youth Award, a Junior Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. She has also been a part of the Ethno-Global Music Gatherings project held in Belgium and Germany.
In addition to her musical pursuits, Anagha has a keen interest in music psychology and performance science. She is passionate about sharing the beauty of music with the world and is committed to using her art to foster peace and understanding.
