The singer
Aleksandra Popovska lives in The Hague and is at home in various musical styles. She is known for her mastery as a singer with a unique interpretation of traditional Macedonian songs and is one of the most famous Macedonian musicians of Europe. She is highly regarded as a singer within the European world music and Balkan music scene. The instruments she masters are the voice, piano, traditional flutes of the Balkans, dulcimer and small percussion. She is a member of the Dutch Association of Vocal Pedagogues (NVZ)
The composer
As a composer, her interests lie in contemporary music and interdisciplinary work with artists from other disciplines. She has collaborated with many artists, including directors, theatre makers, composers, visual artists and choreographers, from over 20 different countries in different roles and artistic contexts (stage, multimedia performances, live electronics, music for film, animations and performances for young people). She is a member of the New Geneco, Dutch society of composers.

At the moment Aleksandra is also working as a conductor with two choirs in The Hague.
Collaborations
Aleksandra Popovska started her career in Macedonia, at the end of the nineties, as a session musician and have worked with almost all the producers and pop artists active in Skopje at that time, which resulted in the recording of numerous CDs. Her international career began in 2000 as a singer for one of the most famous music groups of the Dragan Dautovski Quartet of the Balkans (2000-2013), musically exploring her Macedonian musical heritage. With this band she released 4 CDs and had hundreds of concerts in over 15 different countries.
In the Netherlands she has played in various formations: Barbar project (with Bence Huszar – cello and Zoli Soos – guitar), Trio Alka (Cvetanka Sozovska – harpsichord, Elena Nakovska – violin), Il Fault Manger, Vinsky and others. She forms a duo with the Hungarian-Dutch guitarist Zoli Soos, with whom she has immersed herself for years in the world of Balkan music.

On stage
She has given hundreds of performances, such as at the Rotterdam Opera Festival, the Music Meeting Festival Nijmegen, Gipsy Festival-Tilburg, World Music Days-Rotterdam, Neuköllner Oper in Berlin, Big Bang Festivals in Brussels and Lille, Warsaw Autumn, the National Opera and Ballet of Macedonia, Ohrid Summer Festival, et cetera.
