Markku Ounaskari

The drummer’s career commenced in the beginning of the 1990s, as he recorded and toured with two legendary units, Piirpauke and the Pekka Pohjola Group. Markku is featured on Piirpauke’s ‘Algazara’ and ‘Serenade’ and Pohjola’s ‘Changing Waters’.

A noteworthy period came in the late 1990s, as Ounaskari and his brother-in-arms, bassist Ulf Krokfors, seemed to be the only local jazz rhythm section. A fine example of the demand and testament to the duo’s abilities is the fact that pianists Jarmo Savolainen and Seppo Kantonen employed Krokfors and Ounaskari at the same time.

Here he is involved with FUGARA, the quartet with Markus Stockhausen, Paul van Kemenade and Stefan (Stevko) Busch.
