Alexander von Schlippenbach & Frank Paul Schubert

VR 15 APR 2011 20.00, PIANOLAB GOETHE INSTITUTE, AMSTERDAM (NL)

Alexander von Schlippenbach · piano, Frank Paul Schubert · saxophone, Vera Vingerhoeds · presentation/interview

For over 40 years, Alexander von Schlippenbach has been one of the most renowned pianists in improvised music.

With his numerous projects, some of which have been around for decades (since 1966: Globe Unity Orchestra, since 1970: Schlippenbach-Trio, etc.), he is one of the key figures in the European jazz scene.

His unmistakeable improvisational style also assumes cross-generational relevance in the bands Monk’s Casino and LOK.03.

During the past few years, the saxophonist Frank Paul Schubert has attracted growing attention through the band GRID MESH (with Andreas Willers, Johannes Bauer and Willi Kellers) and his project with Günter Baby Sommer (current CD: HIC SUNT LEONES, JazzHausMusik jhm165).

Based on classical literature, his idiosyncratic melodies can also be heard alongside musicians such as Antonis Anissegos, Clayton Thomas, Tony Buck, Achim Kaufmann and Tobias Delius.

The meeting of Alexander von Schlippenbach and Frank Paul Schubert promises to be an exciting conversation between two individualists who, in complete spontaneity with a great passion for detail, never lose sight of the climactic balance and the architecture of the music – in short, instant composing in the truest sense possible.
