In the past two decades, New York musician Sylvie Courvoisier (1968) has created a distinctive, poetic musical universe (RADIO),which combines instances of shatter, mirroring, flashing light and mysterious shimmerings in a fascinating way to form a strongly radiant, imaginative whole; all this with a clear, in-depth structure to enable deep delving and far projection.

Bernd Köppen and Theo Jörgensmann have been a distinguished duo in jazz between 1984 and 1999. During that time they published several broadcast recordings, and performed on festivals and concerts. Their way of playing jazz and improvisation in a setting of chambermusik founded what you can call the "European way".

The quartet came together in summer 2012 while Ingrid has been working as artist in residence in Moers (DE). On november 10th the group had also performed a concert in a chapel called "Waalse kerk" in Arnhem - organised bij AMP. 
 
The first six titles have been played there. Recorded by Jason Alder, mixed with no reverb added.
 
The last title of this playlist has been recorded at the Goethe Institut on the next day.

Lisa Cay Miller is a pianist and composer from Vancouver, British Columbia. These miniatures were inspired by the short stories of Doris Lessing.

 

I. An old woman and her cat
'Tibby would normally be hunting, the night was his time, but he had stayed with the old woman now for three nights.'

 

II. Through the tunnel
'He was trembling with horror at the long, long tunnel under the rock, under the sea.'

 

III. A Mild Attack of locusts
'Margaret looked out and saw the air dark with a criss-cross of the insects, and she set her teeth and ran out into it -'

Philipp Rüttgers (*1981) - solo piano | Improvisation on Bela Bartok's Mikrokosmos

Philipp Rüttgers is a german pianist from Arnhem (NL). 

 

He is using Bartoks composition as given form for his improvisation. The different original parts from No. 138 are mainly kept in order, though Philipp is using his own way of shaping this tune. Sometimes relating to other pieces from the Mikrokosmos, sometimes adding his own ingredients.
